Cartoonists For Hire

Cartoonists for Hire - A Few Of My Favorites

Hi there, I'm going to be writing this post today about some of my favorite people around: Cartoonists! They are a bastion of wit, humor, and wisdom in a world that can, let's face it, take itself WAY too seriously at times. Cartoons are a fantastic way to unwind, and I must say that I have wasted plenty of time staring at cartoons instead of doing whatever it is I was supposed to be doing in the first place.

Where to find cartoons today

Where are some places you will generally find cartoons?

Well, you can find them in...
  • Newspapers
  • Magazines
  • Personal Websites
  • Syndicate Websites
  • Brochures
  • Office or School Presentations
  • Newsletters
  • Emails
  • Programs
...and tons of other places, too!

Who draws the best cartoons, and where can you find them?

Even though cartoons are generally associated with newspapers, the comics page in most syndicated papers is really a dying breed. Just like the rest of the print media industry, cartoonists have been subject to the mass exodus to online and digital publishing. While most print newspapers do continue to print comic pages, they are ruefully condensed and often offer anodyne strips from the 1950's like Dennis the Menace or Blondie. Frankly, in the modern world, these strips just do not cut it, humor wise.

These days, we are really looking for something edgier, and that's why I think it's important to look past the traditional comic pages and start to think about hiring a more current cartoonist for hire. In this field, there are absolutely a ton of freelance cartoon artists to consider, and I wanted to take the chance in this blog post to talk about a few of my favorites.

My favorite freelance cartoonists

First of all, this is a really tough decision... It's like asking what your favorite food is. On different days, when you're in different moods, you will like one thing more than another. Still, There are some Staples of the field that I think are always great, and I'm happy to digest their work anytime. Here are my favorite freelance cartoonists:
  • Jon Carter
  • Mark Anderson
  • Loren Fishman
  • Sarah Steenland
  • Jim Huber
  • Ron Goldman
  • Dan Gibson
Most of these guys and gals have an online cartoon portfolio that you can check out and view some of their featured and most popular cartoons. I would definitely encourage anyone who is interested in a good laugh and wants to appreciate some excellent art and joke-writing to check out these freelance cartoonists.

The importance of cartoons

Cartoons are important because they can make simple and honest points that cannot be made as effectively with just words, or in a serious article. With cartoons, the humor is always the central focus, and because nothing is really funny unless is strikes a cord of truth in us, it is definitely the case that cartoons are an important way to communicate important messages.

Throughout history, cartoons have been used to speak truth to power and educate and inspire people to be informed through provocative humor, art, and storytelling.

There will always be a place for cartoons in our society, and even though there are many other kinds of stimulating media, some of which is far more hyper-engaging than still cartoons, I believe that the cartoon is a social institution that cannot be underestimated and will endure into the future.
